Champions WRFC. Following the RFU announcement today regarding final league positions for the Professional and Community game in England, we are proud to confirm that Witney rugby club has finished 1st in the Southern counties North and gained promotion at our first attempt!

I should also take this opportunity to thank our Sponsors Cotswold Natural Stone, Courtiers, Homestyle, Wychwood Brewery, Adler and Allan JBrand and many more who support this wonderful club. Our supporters who turn out in great numbers week in week out From the Blanketmen to Dabbers crew, Karl and his mates as well our 1000 plus members both players and Mini and Junior families without whose support we would not have achieved this result.

I think the coaching team led by Adam Copperwheat has done an excellent job in winning the league. Only one defeat all season, but I know Adam and Captain Rob Coe and the players would rather have played the remaining 4 games but at least all the hard work has been recognised and we can now plan for the next season. The strength in depth is shown by the 2nd and 3rd teams who had very respectable finishes in their own leagues as well as a strong league position for the Ladies team

Credit also goes to our hard working staff Club Steward Dave Wicks , Daniel , Kevin Lottie and all who ensure we are all fed and watered to Sarah and Jake who look after the players and to Glenn who maintains the excellent playing surfaces

Tug Wilson, Director of Rugby at WRFC “It’s a really unusual set of circumstances and our first thoughts are to all our members, supporters and those stakeholders affected by COVID-19. The important thing is to make sure we all stay home and stay safe.

Bob Fisk , Chairman at Witney Rugby Club “Whilst I’m obviously proud of what our club achieved this season – the playing and coaching squad have surpassed expectations, and our army of volunteers have all risen to the challenges of delivering match days at this level - it is difficult to celebrate in this current climate.

We are of course pleased to be promoted again and able to plan for next season but for now our priority and thoughts are with all of our members, supporters and everybody affected by this pandemic. We as a club remain available to assist the vulnerable where needed and we will only focus our energy on future rugby activity when the time is right” But trust me we know how to party, and we will.
