Witney RFC brief status update
Dave Wicks
Clearly the sad loss of Dave so suddenly has affected us all and the fact we are unable to attend the funeral or hold a celebration of his life is also very hard to comprehend.  At some time in the future when we are able to, and when the family feel it appropriate, I am sure we will do something to celebrate Dave’s life and the amazing contribution he made to the club over many years.
The committee will be sitting down to look at the future running of the clubhouse in the near future and the appropriate job description and application process will be announced, with the aim of having a fully functional club before the start of the season.  All our other bar staff are currently stood down, but we are maintaining contact with them and they will be kept informed on progress and plans to reopen the club.
Current position
All club bookings up to the end of June have been cancelled including, unfortunately, the club dinner.
We will keep under review government guidelines and RFU advice as to what we can do going forward re training, reopening the clubhouse etc. so that activities can recommence as soon as we are able to do so.  Plans for pre-season friendlies and training should be worked on but implementation will depend on government advice and guidelines
On the playing side budgets will be reviewed in line with available funding but it’s hoped all senior coaches, physios and the rest of the playing support team will be able to commit once again.
The pitches and grounds are being maintained by Glenn and a small team of volunteers and I know a few are using the grounds for their daily exercise. As a reminder the gate must remain locked and if you spot any suspicious activity please report it.
Our finances
We have implemented as many cost reductions as possible and submitted applications for all relevant government support to ensure, as far as we are able, that we have the financial strength to weather what may be a long period without revenues.  Andrew Tacon is owed numerous free drinks for the work he’s done.  I know he won’t like hearing praise but he’s done a fabulous job.
Plans for the clubhouse extension are currently on hold and at a later stage we will need to review the likelihood of raising the required funds, especially as I fear tough times ahead.
Our sponsors
Clearly many things are up in the air regarding international rugby but once I know what our international ticket allocation is going to be, I will write to sponsors.  This is likely to be around the end of May.  I hope that most of our sponsors will be in a position to be able to continue their support but I appreciate that they too have had hard times during this pandemic
The future is still in the hands of the government policy makers but I know you are all willing to support the club when we reopen.  It’s unlikely we will be able to recover all the revenues lost during the lockdown but we will be looking at fund raising events to restore our finances as much as possible.  However that will have to wait until we know where we are.
Until then stay safe and look after your families
