In front of a bumper Hailey Road crowd Witney 2nds produced their 4th win of the season. Making minimal changes from the side that beat Beaconsfield away the previous week, the boys were coming into the game in good shape. Kick off was delayed by a few minutes as we had to change kits, despite this we came out the blocks strongly and dominated the first 25 minutes.

Our fine play was rewarded with a try for Magic Mike Johnson following and excellent counter and kick from full back Tom Weedon. This clearly woke up the Rams side and they returned with 10 unanswered points before half time.

The 2nd half was all Witney, we dominated territory and procession. Our set piece was particularly strong, and the all the backline were using the ball well at times. The forward pack were also on enjoying themselves, in particular the front five, Nobbs, Wakeman, Perry and Fisk as they were loving the closed quarters work. Eventually the pressure paid off and skipper Ben McPherson cut back against the Rams drift defence, to power over. Luke Manning added the important extras.

Minutes later were back in the Rams half forcing them to concede a penalty which Luke walloped over.

The last 15 minutes were closed out efficiently by the shags by keeping the ball effectively and playing in the right areas of the pitch.

Man of the Match – Adam Nobbs

T*t of the day – Ben McPherson.
