Witney RFC

12 - 61

(HT 0-0)

Newbury RFC

The first home game of the season, a packed Hailey Road ground with Newbury Swindon 2nds and Chipping Norton 2nds all playing. The crowd and players in a reflective mood with memories and Dave Hyde being discussed and are thoughts turning towards his family and friends as at 3 pm all sides gave a minute’s applause for Dave.

Newbury always a good side and this year no exception Witney missing key players due to injury took to the field and looked up for the game. Within half an hour we were 0-21 down. A yellow card for Edwards on 33 minutes and Rhys Morgan head injury things looked bleak however Josh Rihan managed a try before half time 5-21

The second half started and Carl Campbell suffered a nasty broken foot and that was the end of his day (Happy to say Carl has had surgery and is at home now) Witney seemed to fall apart as Newbury pushed the score to 5-61  however josh Rihan got his second with the last play and Godfrey converted final score 12-61

The seconds beat Swindon 26-12 and the 3rds lost to Chippy 15-56
